THE MESMERIST
THE MESMERIST
The 19th Century was filled with magic, and magicians. The Golden Age of Magic was forming during this time and change was happening throughout the world. The magic that I will be performing includes effects that have rarely been seen by audiences, or even by current-day magicians. This show will be performed in the beautifully historic ballroom of the Woodruff-Fontaine House (built in 1871) in the Victorian Village of Memphis, Tennessee.
Come to this show and see what audiences observed over a 100 years ago.

THE ZOMBIE
This illusion is something that magician Joe Karson (1912-1980) created by accident in 1940. Although he created many illusions, Zombie was probably the most famous. Most magicians have owned and practiced the Zombie, but many have not continued performing it because, some have said, "it is difficult and painful" to perform . I wanted to perform this in front of an audience with a live musician in the room, playing Debussy's "Syrinx" (1899), which was a piece that I have used since I was about 15 years old. I was pleased thatt he audience was spellbound by this illusion. I was fortunate enough to engage musicians Sabrina Hu & Delara Hashemi to accompany me on flute for the performances on Jan. 19 & 26, 2019.
MAGIC: Past & Present
by JEFFREY DAY
Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin (1805-1871) is known as "The Father of Modern Magic". I wonder what he would have thought of magic being performed today with iPhones and Rubik's Cubes.

In this exciting new show that I am presenting, you will be taken on a journey of how early conjurors have successfully influenced the modern day magicians of today. The similarities may not be obvious, but they are definitely evident. You will learn how the great MAX MALINI of the early 1900's was influenced by ISSAC FAWKES of the early 1700's with a very similar trick that became a blockbuster to this very day. Not many people know this, but the great HARRY HOUDINI was not the first escape artist to free himself from handcuff. But Houdini surely knew how to market himself and make the genre of escapology a real attraction. And YES, I will be attempting to escape from a couple of restraints in this show!
